Monday March 23rd

I had originally made some observations and wrote earlier in the day but they were so sad, depressing and woe is me that I deleted it. I'm talking dog ran away, girlfriend left me so I'm going walking in the rain humming "All by Myself" sad. I'll limit my writing to later in the day rather the beginning when I'm feeling the most sloth-like. I'll start with the usual ranting against the orange disaster that is Trump. I passed on today's press conference, but I feel this guy is one quote away from saying that he wished he was at Spring Break with all the idiots who were partying in a manner that did not fit social distancing. Compare that with Trudeau whose stern words that no one was immune and to stay home. Again, thank God I'm Canadian because this ass cloaked as a president is going to destroy his country.

We, as a family, have decided that we need to get out of the house once a day for a drive/fresh air/ get some things that we need or all of the above. Today's trip took us to Canadian Tire where we brought roller skate guards for our daughter so we could take her to the park and allow her to skate her little heart out. I told friends of ours on my daughter's hockey team that I would never, ever get roller skate guards as I'd watched her teammates indulge in all manner of mayhem on those things in arenas and it drove me up the wall. But I cracked. I bought the damn things because it gave my daughter another activity to indulge in. For the record, even though I said I'd never, ever buy roller skate guards it took a freakin' pandemic to get me to buy them so I don't feel one bit hypocritical!

Final note from today was the cancellation of the rest of the Junior hockey season, playoffs and Memorial Cup included. This greatly saddens me as for the first time in over 100 years the Memorial Cup won't be played and it's one of my favourite tournaments of the year. That said, the right and prudent move was made, but man it's a kick in the cashews for all the teams that worked hard and saw themselves as contenders and the players hoping to elevate or maintain their draft stock for the upcoming NHL draft. It also sucks for the Overage players who see their junior career come to an end in the most unceremonious way possible. Still, these are strange and different days. Next up the NHL and NBA have one heck of a decision to make about their seasons. Stay tuned!

Aside from the above the day passed without incident unless you count the delivery of two books for me from Amazon as noteworthy. I can't play Candy Crush, watch Friends/Seinfeld/Simpsons reruns forever. One thing I am looking forward to is watching the documentary series The Dark Side of the Ring on VICE TV. Nothing like a good, and tragic wrestling documentary to liven the mood, especially given the first episode of Season Two deals with the Chris Benoit tragedy (see preview below) . Hey, at least I'm not masochistic and watching crappy and too close to home movies like Pandemic, 28 days or any other movie that features a virus. Why people are watching those is beyond me. Probably the same people who get their COVID-19 opinions from Facebook.

Stay safe. Stay six feet away from each other and stay inside as much as possible. We got this.

Steve
