Steve Clark's Broadcast Booth

We are going multi-media! Yes, that's right I've decided to dip my toes into the crowded world of podcasting as a side project while I wait for decisions to be made on the CHL and more specifically the OHL season.

Right now Ontario remains in lockdown until mid February. I've lost track of when to tell you the truth. Pandemic fatigue is real ladies and gentlemen

The reason I'm doing a podcast is really to help promote what potentially could have been another media adventure. At one point as I was hoping to do a weekly radio show called The Dog Run which would have focused on the QEW OHL teams , the IceDogs and the Bulldogs (see how clever the name is!) but also would bounce around the OHL covering topics and stories. I'll be honest with you. I was in a big -time creative slump in December as it was the first anniversary of both my parents passing away and it was very, very emotional. So I put the project on hold until either a season was declared or cancelled, or I had the creative juices.

The first episode will drop over the next day or two, depending on my fumble thumbs editing and I will try to do at least one podcast a week, maybe two. If the season gets cancelled, we will pivot to other sports and non-sports related topics. I had pitched a couple of ideas to CBC for podcasting so I might dive into those. We will see how it goes. I know that without games to call, there would be a creative void. Wil this fill it? Well, only time will tell.

I also have a potential TV show idea in development if the season gets shutdown, so there may or may not be more to announce.

QUICK HITS

  1. One of the things the first podcast will deal with is the idea of a prospects tournament in spring and pushing back the draft date, with one of the suggestions being to put the NHL Draft of '02 and '03 birthdate players back to back in late June, which would be a creative and unique idea to say the least. This all came from a discussion during the 2nd intermission of Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday.

  2. The pandemic has played havoc with both the NBA and NHL schedule so far this year with southern belt teams in the NHL like Florida, Carolina cancelling games along with Dallas, who just got their season started. So far, so good for the Canadian teams as of this writing. I haven't been following the NBA as much because the Raptors have been middling at best, but they haven't even released the 2nd half of their schedule

  3. Tim and Sid are no more, split, gonzo. Tim Micallef and Sid Sexeiro had a heck of a run as a sports talk duo as their careers together spanned close to 20 years. In media, that's a lifetime. They're done for now as Sid moves to Breakfast Television and Tim stays on with the fan for now. Good luck to both, but especially Sid. Getting up at 3am and appearing bubbly on a talk show in the morning would not be for me.

  4. The NFL is praying nothing bad happens in the next two weeks as they complete their COVID-19 plagued season with KC looking to repeat against old what's his name for Tampa who used to play for New England. It's a dream match up of sorts, unless of course you root for either Buffalo or Green Bay. Buffalo were soundly thumped by KC leading to a whole lot of lonely tables intact hoping for a bunch of jubilant and inebriated Buffalo fans to go sailing through. Green Bay simply blew their chance as they curiously decided to kick a field goal despite being 4th and goal with a chance to score a TD and then go for a two point conversion. Tampa will host the game and it's a nice touch that they've invited 7,500 health care workers to help make up the crowd.

  5. Speaking of Tampa, they'll host Wrestlemania in early April over two nights and the WWE is expected to allow for 20-25,000 fans in the venue for the event. Good for the WWE. It's time to get limited fans back in the stands again.

  6. As for the creative of WWE, and what type of show they'll put on, I'm less and and less convinced as story lines have become repetitive (Roman Reigns v Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble again), or not so interesting (Drew McIntyre vs 3 minutes of Bill Goldberg) or just plain weird with Randy Orton and the Fiend w/ Alexa Bliss fighting over something. All I can say is there has been lots of special effects and not so much wrestling.
